SUSANNA HALL'S TESTIMONIAL

'In September 2001, I was diagnosed with severe M.E. by Dr David Mason Brown. The diagnosis was made according to the W.H.O. classification wherein Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is defined as the mild version and M.E. as the more severe variant.

I was tremendously fortunate to see Dr Mason Brown soon after my collapse which had been just three months earlier. Like so many others, I had the blood tests, seen specialists of various fields, and yet had received no adequate explanation for how dreadful I felt.
Dr Mason Brown explained to me that most M.E. patients suffer neurally mediated hypotension - low blood pressure primarily affecting the blood supply to the brain. I realised that this explained why I had been feeling that I simply could not think. Moreover, with a degree in Psychology, I immediately recognised the implications of an inadequate blood supply to my brain.

As a doctor, Dr Mason Brown's primary concern was to stabilise the circulation to the brain and he prescribed Nimopidine, a Calcium channel blocker, to this end. However, he also advocated a more holistic approach, recommending a number of nutritional supplements, suggesting I practised relaxation techniques, and encouraging me to do whatever yoga I felt up to.

If asked to summarise Dr Mason Brown's influence over my recovery, I would say that it was three fold:

  • first, he prescribed the medication that could turn the condition around;
  • second, he made it clear that it was up to me how quickly I managed to recover: if I could learn to rest and pace myself, I would be better much sooner than if I tried to keep going;
  • finally, he believed I would fully recover.

A doctor who believes it is possible to fully recover from M.E. is a rarity in the U.K. Dr Mason Brown is someone who is totally familiar with what it feels like to have M.E., he knows how to help and he is endlessly encouraging - I cannot recommend him highly enough.'

Feedback on the Mind Body tape which is included in Action Pack 1...........
I can't praise the tape highly enough, it puts me into a lovely state of relaxation and know I'll get to sleep after I have listened to it. The tape has become my one anchor - the thing that gives me security, confidence and hope about the future!
